Industrial Hemp was harvested in Kentucky in September of 2014 for the first time since World War 2.
The cultivation, which began in May of 2014, is part of a pilot program of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and the University of Kentucky.
Currently, hemp is illegal to grow without a research permit.

Hemp as Alternative Crop in Australia Due to Water Shortage
Due to Burrendong Dam water levels being low in New South Wales, Australia, irrigating cotton crops will be challenging and industrial hemp is being considered as an alternative crop for its fibers as it takes 50 percent less water to cultivate. Plus, hemp produces 200-250 percent more fiber in the same amount of land. Unlike cotton, hemp requires no pesticide control and due to its nature, acts as its own weed control (no marijuana pun intended) because of the canopy it provides, it blocks the sunlight that encourages weeds.

Alex White Plume the Only Man in America Banned from growing Hemp
It's been over four years since I've posted to the blog, for that I'm ashamed as the hemp movement needs all hands available to continue the advocation of the amazing cannibis plant that as many say, "Can Save the World".
During the last four years a lot of progress has been made towards the legalization for the cultivation of industrial hemp. Although the efforts by Ron Paul to introduce the Industrial Farm Act have withered under the baking lack of effort by other politicians, the continued interest and support have not waned by We The People.
One thing that I do find interesting is the medical marijuana movement has opened the doors for industrial hemp. This, I never seen coming as industrial hemp can not get you "high" but yet still has encountered more road blocks than marijuana. In some ways, this adds to the "hemp conspiracy theory" to keep hemp illegal because of its threat to the petrochemical industry. But I will save those thoughts for another time. Right now the focus is just being back in the groove of blogging and focusing on the latest news about hemp and the progress that has been made and road block encountered during the past for years.
To get started again, I'd like to share this news article on Alex White Plume, the only man in America that has been "banned for life" from growing industrial hemp.
One point brought out in the article is that the...

"(U.S. governement officials) just don't understand that hemp is a natural product. And they really didn't understand that when I grow hemp near my house, nobody else can grow marijusan within a 25-mile radius because industrial hemp (pollination) reduces the THC in marijuana plants by half in the first year alone."So, states that are concerned with illegal marijuana growing, should allow the cultivation of industrial hemp!
Here is the reason the Alex White Plume wanted to grow hemp:
"In 1998, you could make $30 from an acre of alfalfa, and $15 from an acre of barley. But with hemp and all its byproducts and fibers and seeds, we estimaed that an acre could yield $167. So the Tribal Council held a meeting and passed an ordinance allowing for hemp cultivaiton."Just a reminder, the United States of America is the world's largest importer of raw hemp material but it is illegal under Federal law to grow it and the U.S. Argricultural Department does not deem it a "vialble cash crop".
